3 Dead, 1 seriously injured in Belgium shooting

Three people died and a fourth was seriously injured Saturday in a shooting at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in downtown Brussels, police officials in the capital told Efe.

The shooting occurred around 3:50 p.m., according to Belgian media, and Interior Minister Joëlle Milquet, who was in the area of the murders in the popular Sablon district, said that “everything indicates an antiSemitic attack,” the daily La Libre Belgique reported.

No further details are yet known about the incident, which has been condemned by Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, together with members of his administration.

“Very upset about the events in Brussels. My sincere condolences and full support for the families and friends of the victims,” Di Rupo said on his Twitter account.

La Libre Belgique said that the suspected gunman had doubleparked his Audi at the entrance to the Jewish Museum and got out along with another person.

After shooting at the people in front of the museum, he got in has car and sped away, according to the newspaper.

Police chief Guido Van Wymersch told the same paper that the fatalities were two women and a man.

Emergency management services aided around a dozen people who were at the scene when the shooting took place.

Belgium is holding legislative, regional and European elections on Sunday.
