3 Spaniards go Hollywood with film about postapocalyptic world

Produced by Jaume ColletSerra and Juan Sola and directed by Miguel Angel Vivas, “Welcome to Harmony” will be an Englishlanguage Hollywood movie made by three Spaniards.

“Vivas was getting ready to do a film and said he didn’t like anything he was reading, so the producer asked him if he knew about the novel ‘Y Pese a Todo.’ Vivas read it overnight and the very next morning called the producer and told him ‘we’ve got the movie,’” the novel’s author, Juan de Dios Garduño, told Efe.

The story creates a postapocalyptic world where two men and a young girl live in a remote village that has not been touched by an infection that is turning men into monsters around the entire planet.

The two men in this devastated world are full of hatred, clashing with one another in a small village in Maine, the home state of Stephen King, to whom Garduño wished to pay tribute.

Shooting of the film will kick off in Budapest next February.

“You always have the same worry and wonder if they’ll be true to the novel, but I have met several times with the director and the changes they propose are very slight,” Garduño said, adding that after learning who was going to be in the cast he realizes that this movie will have an international impact.

Featured in the cast of “Welcome to Harmony” are Jeffrey Donovan, who starred in the longrunning U.S. cable television series “Burn Notice” and portrayed Robert F. Kennedy in Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar”; and Matthew Fox, prominent for his role in the ABC series “Lost.”
