68th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony begins

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, the ‘Oscars of TV,’ began at the Microsoft theater in Los Angeles Sunday night, with Jimmy Kimmel as the host. The epic fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’ rocks the Emmy’s again with the most chances to win big on the night with 23 nominations.

After Game of Thrones picked up a recordbreaking 12 awards at the 2015 Emmy’s, the series returned this year as the favorite to repeat the feat in the outstanding drama series category, for which it will have to beat ‘Better Call Saul,’ ‘Mr. Robot,’ ‘House of Cards,’ ‘Homeland,’ ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘The Americans.’

The series with the second most nominations behind ‘Game of Thrones, are ‘The People vs O.J. Simpson’ and ‘Fargo, which received 22 and 18 nominations, respectively.

Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) is the favorite to win best actor in a drama series, while ‘Orphan Black’ star Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) is likely to secure another Emmy for best actress in a drama series.

The political satire comedy ‘Veep’ is a top contender to win in the best comedy category again, but is faces stiff competition with ‘Blackish,’ ‘Master of None,’ ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Silicon Valley’ ‘Transparent’ and ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ all competing in the comedy category.

Veep’s Julia LouisDreyfus hopes to win the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Award for the fifth consecutive year while Jeffrey Tambor is the favorite for best actor in a comedy for his role in ‘Transparent.’
