Mexican actress Olga Segura will begin working on a new film, “The Dinner,” starring Cate Blanchett and on which she will be part of the production team.

Segura, who currently plays the role of Edith Phillips in the Telemundo soap opera “Señora Acero,” told Efe that, just like acting, she enjoys everything about producing films because it encompasses elements that “as a creative person” she wants to explore.

“When you produce a film, you have to create an entire world so that the actors can do their work,” said the actress, who along with her brother Juan Carlos and her friend, actor Hector Jimenez, founded the “Producciones A Ciegas” production company after filming “Cellmates,” directed by Jesse Baget.

“There we began talking, and we discussed the idea of creating our own production company,” she said.

Since then, the trio has produced films like “Mar Muerto,” “Marcelo” and “The Truth About Emanuel,” the latter starring Jessica Biel and Kaya Scodelario and which was presented at the Sundance Film Festival.

Regarding her new foray into producing “The Dinner,” based on the samenamed novel by Herman Koch, Segura said that the main role will be brought to life by Blanchett, the winner of an Oscar for best actress for her work in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine.”

A graduate of the prestigious Stella Adler workshop in Los Angeles, Segura said that acting allows her to explore other lives, but producing films is a way of telling stories that not only entertain the public but go beyond.

“Some people make good films, but they focus the plot from a darker perspective. We want for the people who go to see our films to come out of the theater entertained, but above all inspired,” said the actress, who is scheduled to appear in “Gonzalez,” by Christian Diaz Pardo, at the end of this year.
