Share

Hacker group Anonymous launched an cyber attack on the website of the Bank of Greece that left the servers blocked for at least six hours without the computer systems being affected, the Greek press reported on Wednesday.

As a result the website was out of service during that period, but on Wednesday morning it was again fully operational.

A source from the bank confirmed the attack to EFE and also that security systems were able to repel it while “no damage was done” to the computer systems of the bank.

This is the first attack by Operation OpIcarus, launched by hackers in January 2016 against financial institutions in Europe and the United States that Anonymous accused of “corruption”, and which include institutions in Brazil, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan and Iran.

Anonymous emerged in 2003, adopting the mask of Catholic rebel Guy Fawkes from the graphic novel “V for Vendetta” as a symbol of their rebellious activities.
