Chilean singersongwriter Beto Cuevas, leader of the legendary rock band La Ley, will be honored on Oct. 15 in Miami Beach, Florida, during the 3rd annual La Musa Awards of the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, or LSHOF.

Luis Alberto Olmedo Cuevas will receive the Conquistador Award for “his important artistic contribution to the (Latin) music industry,” the awards organization said in a statement.

Cuevas has had multiple hits during his almost 30year musical career with numbers like “El Duelo,””Aqui,””Fuera de Mi” and “Mentira,” a song that sold millions of copies and was distinguished by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP.

Performing as a soloist since 2005, the winner of a Latin Grammy for Best Pop/Rock Album with his 2012 disc “Transformacion” has done duos with top pop artists like Miguel Bose, Alejandro Sanz, Juan Luis Guerra and Juanes.

Cuevas has also worked with bands like Los Prisioneros and La Oreja de Van Gogh.

Back with La Ley again in 2014 for an acclaimed tour of the Americas, Cuevas, who has also acted in bigscreen productions like “La Mujer de Mi Hermano” and “Borderland,” is working on a new film together with the Chilean band.

This year LSHOF will also distinguish six of the most influential singersongwriters and composers of Latin music: the Cuban Emilio Estefan, Colombia’s Hector Ochoa Cardenas, Gustavo Santaolalla and Diego Torres of Argentina, the Salvadoran Alvaro Torres, and Myriam Hernandez of Chile.

The Conquistador Award has honored the exceptional talent and achievements in Latin music of such artists as Puerto Rico’s Draco Rosa in 2013 and Spain’s Alejandro Sanz in 2014.

The gala at which LSHOF will bestow the La Musa Awards, to be held in the South Beach district of Miami Beach, will honor the world’s biggest hits in Spanish and Portuguese plus the category’s most outstanding composers.
