Bolt sprints into history with his third 100m Olympic gold

Share

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt today became the first athlete in history to win the 100meter dash in three consecutive Olympics after he won the men’s 100m final in 9.81 seconds at the Rio Summer Games.

Even though Bolt had some physical problems only a month prior to the Olympics, none of his rivals was able to outshine him. American Justin Gatlin, again, won silver with 9.89 seconds and Canada’s Andre de Grasse was third in 9.91 seconds.

Bolt won the Brazilian public’s heart as they treat Bolt like their own idol by shouting out his name three times once he appears on the track, while booing Bolt’s rival Gatlin, who had served a fouryear doping suspension, every time he appeared on screen.

Apart from 11 World Championship gold medals in his pocket, Bolt now has seven Olympic gold medals and is the reigning Olympic champion in three events: 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

For Tuesday, Bolt is targeting to also win gold in the 200m, his favorite event, and in the 4x100 relay to realize his tripletriple gold medal dream.
