Bulgarian premier phones ministers in middle of night

The Bulgarian prime minister, rightwing populist Boyko Borisov, said that when he cannot sleep he phones the ministers of his government late at night to check the affairs of government and even sends the police if they do not respond to his calls.

Borisov said in an interview published today by Dneven Trud daily newspaper that he often wakes up at 3 or 4 in the morning and phones ministers and directors of state agencies to clarify important matters.

He added that if they do not respond, he sends a police patrol to inform them that they must answer.

Borisov, a former bodyguard who used to train in karate, says that only married ministers have problems with these untimely calls and more than once he has heard wives asking “Who is the idiot calling at this hour?” EFE
