Cedric Gervais out to win Latino fans with song he created with Juanes

French DJ and producer Cedric Gervais officially presented the song “Este Amor,” which he composed together with Juanes, during the final concert of the famed Colombian singer’s world tour last Thursday at the Miami Arena.

Gervais told EFE Saturday that he has every hope “of making my name among Latino music lovers thanks to this tune being such a hit on social networks,” a tune recorded by the Universal Music Latin America label.

The two Grammy winners created an innovative fusion of electronic dance music, or EDM, and Latin rock in this song, which, following its launch at Tampa’s Sunset Music Festival, has only been available on Gervais’s SoundCloud.

“A lot of people know electronic music only in its house version, but it plays a part in most of today’s compositions,” Gervais told EFE.

The song has already racked up more than 1 million visits on social networks and has been picked as the official theme song of Storyland, one of Latin America’s biggest electronic music festivals, to be held Jan. 24, 2016, in Cartagena, Colombia.

“The song was created equally by the two of us (Juanes and Gervais) and we both worked on the lyrics as well as the music, something that makes it a unique, innovative product,” the Frenchman said.

This isn’t the first time the Miamibased French DJ has worked with an internationally renowned artist.

In 2013 he won the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for the number “Summertime Sadness” that he composed together with Lana del Rey.

“This is undoubtedly my greatest hit up to now but it’s just a small milestone on my road,” he said.

Gervais, who began mixing music at age 13, told EFE that the concert at the Miami Arena reminded him of his beginnings in South Beach when he was “a resident of clubs like Crobar and Nikki Beach.”

It was there, he said, where he began rubbing elbows with “big stars on the electronic scene like Sander Kleinenberg, Roger Sanchez and Deep Dish.”

The French DJ now divides his time among his studios in Miami, New York and Las Vegas, and is now making his way into movies with the confirmation of his first role as an actor in the Michael Bay film “Pain & Gain.”
