Del Potro defeats Wawrinka, goes through to Wimbledon third round

Three years after his last game at Wimbledon, Argentine Juan Martin del Potro advanced to the third round with a victory against Swiss Stan Wawrinka 36, 63, 76 (2), 63.

“It feels amazing, beating one of the guys who is playing great tennis this season and I couldn’t have expected this before today,” said Del Potro.

“It is my second or third career now after all the injuries,” he said referring to the multiple operations on his wrist.

“I was sad for the last two years and now I am enjoying playing tennis again. I feel alive,” De Potro declared.

It took the Argentine two hours and 44 minutes to defeat Warwinka.

His next opponent will be the winner of the match between American Donald Young and Frenchman Lucas Pouille.
