Diane von Furstenberg’s ‘dream team’ triumphs in New York

Being a veteran is not always a degree at the New York Fashion Week, but a career spanning four decades did ensure a ‘dream team’ for Diane von Furstenberg on a Sunday she shared with fellow designers Thakoon Panichgul and Victoria Beckham.

Although good friend Naomi Campbell was a permanent fixture in the last lineups of the New Yorkbased Belgian designer, on Sunday she flaunted her spring/summer collection on other top models, including Irina Shayk, Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson and Gigi Hadid.

The classic New York designer, who recently published her biography, showcased a lively runway with breathable, ventilated, airy designs.

Elegant flowing tunics in orange and fuchsia and polkadotted kneelength suits left the viewers awestruck.

Kloss walked the ramp at the start of the show in a dazzling rose print dress, with lacedetailing at the knee and a geometric border on the lapel an explosive start to a collection that surpassed expectations.

Jenner appeared almost immaculate, with flowers in her hair, transmitting serenity and natural balance in a one piece with sheer shirt sleeves and a miniskirt with butterfly accents and Roman sandals.

Spring asthenia dominated the new collection of Thai designer Thakoon Panichgul, a native of Omaha, Nebraska.

Relaxed models showcased loosefitting designs of the collection that intermingled minipants emulating the ‘look’ of a woman with men’s shirts.

The leitmotiv of the collection seemed to be recreating value for the classic American look of faded, badly washed denim.

Sophisticated Vnecks in fabrics crisscrossed with fine cotton also stretched into polo necks, leaving no room for transparencies.

Thakoon who mixes imagery from Thai royalty and the best of American business tradition, has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker and Demi Moore in his ever original and fresh styles.

Meanwhile, Victoria Beckham’s collection was all risks and robustness, abounding in muslins, graphic prints and geometric designs.

Ambitious designs, optical illusions and a lot of eastern inspiration that moved between the kimono and voluminous garment, print technology recreating Japanese watercolors and maximized gingham, dominated Beckham’s spring/summer collection.
