Egyptian President Abdel Fatah elSisi, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades agreed on Wednesday to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and defended the reunification of Cyprus based on the United Nations resolutions.

The Egyptian president stressed that the solution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine “will contribute to the resolution of other conflicts in the Middle East.”

“We express our concern at the recent escalation of violence and stress the need for a solution based on two states with the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as capital of the Palestinian state,” Tsipras said in statements to the media with ElSisi and Anastasiades.

The three leaders held a summit in Athens during which they signed a joint declaration, called the “Athens Declaration”, which includes this issue and also their stances on other international conflicts.

During the joint press conference, where they did not accept questions from reporters, Tsipras said that the leaders in the trilateral summit expressed their willingness to support the efforts of the United Nations in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

The leaders paid special attention to the division of Cyprus and pushed for a reunification based on the U.N. resolutions.
