Palestinian leaders of the nationalist movement Fatah and the Islamist Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, will meet soon in Doha to discuss reconciliation between the two factions.

The meeting is scheduled to be held in early February upon an initiative from the Qatari government, secretary general of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, Amin Maqboul, said in a statement on Monday.

The politician said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has positively responded to the Qatari initiative and ordered a highranking delegation, including members of the Central Committee of Fatah, to be sent to meet the Hamas leaders.

Maqboul also indicated in his note that the meeting will discuss the implementation of previous agreements of reconciliation reached between the two movements but which were not implemented.

The goal is the creation of a national unity government and the fixing of a date for elections.
