France holds minute of silence to commemorate Nice attack victims

Share

France observed a minute of silence on Monday to honor the victims of last week’s truck attack in Nice that left 84 people dead and scores injured.

The tribute took place at 12:00 pm local time (10:00 GMT) on the last of three days of national mourning declared following Thursday’s attack on a crowd that had gathered on the “Promenade des Anglais” to observe a fireworks display on the occasion of Bastille Day.

Residents of Nice and thousands of others came together on the “Promenade des Anglais”, the site of the massacre on July 14.

Those gathered ended their tribute by singing France’s national anthem “the Marseillaise”, during an event attended by Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

Meanwhile, French President Francois Hollande led the tribute in Paris.

Other gatherings took place across the country, including in Strasbourg, Bourdeaux and Rennes.
