The voice that claimed the terrorist attacks last Friday in Paris on behalf of the Islamic State belongs to French jihadist Fabien Clain who settled in Syria, police reported on Tuesday to the French media.

Clain, originally from Toulouse, was cofounder of the Salafist group called Artigat cell and related to Mohamed Merah, who in 2012 killed seven people in that city and its surroundings, according to Le Monde and Le Figaro.

Clain was sentenced in 2009 to five years in prison for his association with a network that sent fighters to Iraq and after being released, he traveled to join the ranks of IS.

His name also appeared in relation to the failed plan to attack a church in Villejuif, just outside Paris, which was to be carried out by Ghlam Sid Ahmed, arrested last April.

According to Le Monde Clain has been “under the radar” of the intelligence services since 2001 with his brother, Michel.
