G7 and EU leaders to discuss Ukraine crisis in The Hague
G7 and European Union leaders meet Monday in The Hague to discuss the Ukraine situation and keep pressure on Russia following the international crisis sparked by that country’s annexation of the autonomous Ukrainian region of Crimea.
The meeting is being held at the request of U.S. President Barack Obama, who last week called on the heads of state and government of the G7 Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada, the United States and Japan to deal with the RussianUkrainian crisis.
The leaders, who are in The Hague to attend the Nuclear Security Summit this Monday and Tuesday, will probably decide their next moves in their relations with Moscow.
This group of countries, the most powerful in the world, is again made up of seven members instead of eight, having excluded Russia from this extraordinary session.
The meeting will be held at Catshuis, the official residence of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the Dutch government said.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Durao Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy will be attending the meeting.
