Goldman Sachs chief discloses he has cancer

Share

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein said Tuesday that doctors have diagnosed him with a “highly curable” lymphoma.

“Fortunately, my form of lymphoma is highly curable and my doctors’ and my own expectation is that I will be cured,” Blankfein said in a message to the investment bank’s employees, clients and shareholders.

The Goldman Sachs boss said that while he will be undergoing chemotherapy in the coming months, his physicians have told him that he will be able to “work substantially as normal.”

“I will, however, reduce some of my previously planned travel during the treatment period,” the 61yearold Blankfein said.

Blankfein, one of the most powerful figures on Wall Street, said he began to feel ill late in the summer and that test results prompted his doctors to carry out a biopsy last week.

“There are many people who are dealing with cancer every day,” he said. “I draw on their experiences as I begin my own. I have a lot of energy and I’m anxious to begin the treatment.”
