Iran denies visas to U.S. Congressmen to monitor nuclear deal

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has refused entry visas to three U.S. Republican congressmen, who wanted to enter Tehran to check the implementation of the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and Group 5+1.

Zarif rejected the request from Republicans Mike Pompeo, Lee Zeldin and Frank LoBiondo, three opponents of the nuclear deal, who wanted to check if Iran is complying with the nuclear commitments.

In a letter written in English, the Iranian minister told the Congressmen that Islamic Republic considers the request “a publicity stunt” and not “an appropriate request to visit a sovereign country.”

The Iranian diplomat pointed out that “the U.S. Congress do not get to dictate the policies of other countries...Bear in mind that as members of the U.S. Congress you are not a global authority.”

Zarif added that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action stipulates that no one can alone monitor the implementation, including the United States, and certainly no citizen or official from this country.
