Juan Monaco withdraws from Italian Open because of injury

Argentine tennis player Juan Monaco announced on Friday his withdrawal from the Italian Open due to injury, shortly before the quarterfinals which would have faced him against Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

Monaco, no. 114 in the ATP rankings, qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka.

Lucas Pouille, who was defeated in the preliminaries, was given another chance to continue after his compatriot JoWilfried Tsonga withdrew because of injury.
