Germany’s Angelique Kerber, the No. 2 seed, rolled to a 75, 60 win over Italy’s Roberta Vinci on Tuesday, advancing to the US Open semifinals.

The 28yearold Kerber took control of the match in the second set, dominating Vinci with a strong baseline game and preventing the Italian from holding serve.

Vinci, the world No. 8, was unable to match her 2015 dream run at this year’s US Open.

The 33yearold Vinci pulled off one of the biggest upsets in tennis history at the 2015 US Open.

Vinci, who was unseeded and ranked No. 43, rallied to beat Serena Williams 26, 64, 64 in the semifinals, ending the American’s bid for an ultrarare calendaryear Grand Slam.

Vinci lost to Flavia Pennetta in an allItalian final less than 24 hours after her stunning victory over Williams.

Pennetta abruptly announced her retirement from professional tennis after the final, closing the door on a return to New York to defend her title in 2016.

Kerber pulled off a big upset of her own in January, defeating Williams in the Australian Open final to win her first Grand Slam title.

Last month, Kerber won the silver medal in singles at the Olympic tennis tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

Puerto Rico’s Monica Puig beat Kerber 64, 46, 61 in the women’s gold medal match.

Kerber will take on the winner of the quarterfinal match between Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova in the semifinals.
