Kerber, Vinci, Wozniacki and Sevastova all through to US Open quarterfinals

Secondseeded Angelique Kerber of Germany advanced to the US Open quarterfinals today after beating 14thseeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in straight sets 63, 75.

The match, which lasted one hour and 27 minutes, confirmed that the German is in her best form and plays good tennis at the moment.

The Olympic Silver Medalist will face seventhseeded Roberta Vinci of Italy in the quarterfinals after the Italian continued her US Open journey with a victory over Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko 76 (5), 62.

Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia world number 48, who retired in 2013 but made a comeback at the beginning of 2016 season, beat the British No 1, world number thirteen Johanna Konta 64, 75.

It was her second big surprise at the US Open after she defeated the thirdseeded and 2016 French Open champion from Spain Garbine Muguruza in the second round.

Sevastova is set to play Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals.

Wozniacki, former world No. 1 but now ranked No. 74, stunned the American Madison Keys with a 63, 64 victory.
