Le Pen removes photograph of murdered U.S. journalist from Twitter

Share

Marine Le Pen, leader of the farright National Front party, removed on Thursday a photograph of U.S. journalist James Foley who was decapitated by the Islamic State in August 2014 in Syria, from her Twitter account, but she kept two pictures of other victims.

Le Pen decided to remove Foley’s photo after his parents protested.

The head of the farright party posted on her Twitter account three pictures of three people executed by IS group, tweeting that “This is the IS” in response to a journalist who compared her party with the jihadist organization, according to Le Pen, although the journalist denies this.

Foley’s parents expressed their anger in a statement, indicating that they are greatly affected by the use made of their son’s image for political gains, hoping the three photos would be removed.

However, Le Pen did not remove the two pictures of the other victims, one was rammed by a tank and the other was burned to death in a cage.

The spread of images prompted wide criticism, while the prosecutor of Nanterre, located outside Paris, has decided to open an investigation.
