Fashion label House of Cannon presented its latest ‘Daydreaming Detroit’ collection at MercedesBenz Fashion Week Australia in Sydney, one of the most notable shows on the annual fashion calendar, as it drew to a close Friday.

It was the second appearance of the Sydney fashion house which bills itself as being “committed to creating flattering, easytowear and elegant silhouettes in an endless array of signature prints inspired by observations and imaginings from different cities around the globe” at the industry event organized by the car manufacturer and global events company IMG.

Models were sent down the catwalk in silk creations featuring car prints in a likely homage to Detroit’s famed auto industry heritage.

“People are fortunate enough to have blank canvases every day when they wake up and what they choose to put on them and how they kind of interact with the world and how that changes,” House of Cannon creative director Annie CannonBrookes said in a video posted to the label’s Instagram page Friday.

The fiveday fashion event, which launched on Sunday, focused on readytowear ‘Resort Collections’ as organizers sought to attract influential buyers and media, according to its official website.

“May marks the beginning of the global sales window for these lucrative retail collections,” said Emily Weight, Asia Pacific head of fashion at IMG Fashion Events & Properties.

“The new timing and ‘Resort’ offering reflects our work with the industry to maintain global relevance for the region’s leading fashion event. The move presents an exciting opportunity for Australian designers and global media and buyers alike.”

The event was hailed by the Herald Sun newspaper as defining summer trends in featuring “flowing fabrics, vivid yellow, modern tailoring, eyelets and plenty of skin”.
