Malaysia reiterates demand for justice for MH17 victims

Share

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak reiterated Wednesday his demand for justice for the victims of flight MH17, which crashed in eastern Ukraine in 2014.

His demand follows a report by the Dutch Safety Board that heads the international investigation into the mishap, which concluded the Malaysian Airlines plane carrying 298 passengers was shot down by a Russianmade BUK missile.

“I promise you that Malaysia will remain steadfast until those behind this heinous act are made to pay for their crimes,” Najib said in a statement.

The Malaysian leader sought “definitive answers” from the investigation to “pursue the strongest action possible against those responsible.”

It’s been 15 months since the accident but Malaysia remains committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice as strongly as it did on the first day, he stressed.

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the joint investigation team, which includes Holland, Malaysia, Belgium, Australia and Ukraine, was working towards the creation of an international court for the case.

In July, Russia vetoed a resolution by Australia, proposing an international court to investigate and judge the MH17 case, in the U.N. Security Council.
