On the second anniversary of a Malaysia Airlines flight being shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Sunday paid tribute to the victims and vowed to continue efforts to find a “satisfactory explanation” for the tragedy.

Taking to Twitter, the premier described the downing of the plane as a “criminal act” that “outraged the world”.

“We will never forget the passengers and crew, nor the grief of the victims’ families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” he wrote.

He added that the Malaysian government will continue efforts to find a “full and satisfactory explanation of the events that led to this tragedy”.

The Dutch Safety Board concluded last year in its final report that the MH17 flight was shot down by a Russianmade Buk missile.

The Boeing 777200ER airliner was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over a conflict zone in eastern Ukraine when it was shot down, killing everyone on board.

Malaysia Airlines is scheduled to be hold a remembrance ceremony for the victims’ families on Monday, an epa journalist reports.
