Mick Jagger jokes about Sean Penn, El Chapo during Mexico concert

Mick Jagger joked during The Rolling Stones’ first of two concerts in Mexico City about American actor Sean Penn’s interview with notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” (Shorty) Guzman.

After the band had played its first songs on Monday night, the 72yearold lead singer and frontman welcomed the 60,000 fans who had packed the Foro Sol arena and told them in Spanish about his activities since arriving three days earlier in the Mexican capital.

Amid the anecdotes, he referred to Penn’s meeting last October with the leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, joking that the actor had “come to interview me at the hotel, but I escaped.”

Penn traveled to Guzman’s hideout and interviewed him for Rolling Stone magazine just weeks before the fugitive drug kingpin, who had escaped from a maximumsecurity prison for the second time last July, was recaptured in his home state of Sinaloa.

The Rolling Stones, who had not performed in Mexico since 2006, arrived on Friday for the penultimate stop on their “America Latina Ole Tour” and will give their second of two concerts in Mexico City on Thursday.

The tour began in Santiago and also has included shows in Buenos Aires; Montevideo; Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre, Brazil; Lima; and Bogota.

It will conclude in Havana, where the legendary band will give a free concert on March 25.
