Monaco eliminates Wawrinka from Italian Open

Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka, no. 4 in the ATP rankings, was surprisingly eliminated on Thursday by Argentine Juan Monaco, no. 144, in the Italian Open round of 16.

The Argentine took two hours and 25 minutes to eliminate Wawrinka, despite losing to him the first set by 67 (5), only to come back in the following two sets with 63, 64 and pass to the quarterfinals.

Monaco will face in the quarterfinals Frenchman Lucas Pouille, world no. 52, who also surprised everyone by defeating Spanish David Ferrer 64, 61.
