Everything was normal in the men’s competition on the eighth day of the US Open, celebrated on the traditional festive Labor Day, with the triumphs of the favorites, led by Andy Murray, who was the last to see action at the start of the evening session.

The second seeded Murray from Great Britain thrashed Bulgarian 22nd seed Grigor Dimitrov, winning in three sets 61, 62, 62 and will join Swiss third seeded Stan Wawrinka, Japanese sixth seeded Kei Nishikori, and Argentine Juan Martin del Potro as quarter finalists.

Murray needed only two hours on the Arthur Ashe Court to beat Dimitrov.

Previously, 26yearold fourth seeded Nishikori won in three sets 63, 64, 76 against twentyfirst seeded Croatian Ivo Karlovic.

Before the triumphs of Nishikori and Murray, Wawrinka has also reached the quarterfinals for the fifth time, his fourth time in a row, by beating Illya Marchenko from Ukraine 64, 61, 67 (5), 63.

The Argentine Del Potro will face Wawrinka in the quarterfinals, after his eighth seeded Austrian rival, Dominic Thiem, had to withdraw in the second set with pain in his right knee despite receiving assistance from the tournament physiotherapist.
