Nadal gets doubles victory at Qatar ExxonMobil Open

Spain’s Rafael Nadal, the world No. 1, teamed up with his coach, Francisco Roig, to beat Spaniard Pablo Andujar and Czech Lukasz Rosol 63, 26, 104 in doubles Monday at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.

The NadalRoig team took the first set in 28 minutes, lost the second set in 20 minutes and won the tiebreaker 104, wrapping up the match in one hour.

The 45yearold Roig coaches Nadal when the Spanish star’s official coach and uncle, Toni Nadal, is not available.

The world No. 1 will make his singles debut Tuesday against Rosol, the world No. 47.

Nadal was bounced out in the second round of Wimbledon in 2012 67 (911), 64, 64, 26, 64 by Rosol in their only meeting.

In other action, Czech Tomas Berdych, the No. 4 seed, lost in his first outing at the tournament.

Bigserving Croat Ivo Karlovic defeated Berdych 76, 76 in one hour and 45 minutes.

There were no service breaks in the match, which was decided in tiebreakers.

Spain’s Fernando Verdasco, the No. 8 seed, beat Italy’s Filippo Volandri 63, 63.

Poland’s Lukasz Kubot beat Spain’s Daniel GimenoTraver 64, 63, while France’s Gael Monfils defeated Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo 76 (71), 62.
