New James Bond movie breaks box-office records in China

Spectre, the new James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, raked in a record $58.9 million in revenues in the first five days of its release in China.

The film broke the record for the biggest Friday opening and the biggest weekend earning for a 2D movie in the country, according to stateowned Xinhua agency.

Several scenes in Spectre, shot on a budget of $350 million, show the streets of metropolitan Shanghai.

On Nov. 11, Craig appeared on the television program celebrating Singles’ Day, an online shopping festival hosted by Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba that offers heavy discounts to promote mass consumption.
