The next movie by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar will be titled “Silence” and is now in “a preliminary phase,” the filmmaker’s brother, Agustin Almodovar, told Efe on Saturday.

In an interview with the daily Financial Times following the London premiere of the musical “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” Pedro Almodovar revealed a few details about his next feature film, which were confirmed Saturday by his brother in a statement to Efe.

The project is in “a preliminary phase” and in a month or two all the details will be made public, said Agustin Almodovar, who together with the famous director founded the production company El Deseo in 1986.

In the Financial Times interview, Pedro Almodovar said that his next film will mean “a return to the cinema of women, of great female protagonists, and it’s a hardhitting drama, which excites me.”

“The script is finished and we will shoot in April,” the director said. “We are involved in casting at the moment, which is complicated because what I’ve written doesn’t quite work with my ‘actores amigos.’”

The film is “called ‘Silencio’ because that’s the principal element that drives the worst things that happen to the main female protagonist,” Almodovar said.

In the same interview, Pedro Almodovar said that he was offered the chance to direct “Brokeback Mountain,” but “I had many doubts.”

“Thinking about it, I don’t know if I made a mistake or not,” he said about his rejection of the project, even though he was promised “total artistic freedom,” because the story was “so physical.”
