Number of women billionaires growing faster than men

Share

A study run by the Union Bank of Switzerland and audit company PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that the number of women billionaires is on the rise, compared to the number of men, over the last 20 years.

The number of female billionaires increased from 22 in 1995 to 145 in 2014.

However, the number of male billionaires is still significantly higher than women, with 1,347 men, amounting to around 89 percent of the total.

But the rise in the number of female billionaires increased 6.6 times, compared to 5.2 times in the case of men.

Asians led the list of women who accumulated fortunes over the last 10 years, representing one fifth of the total fortune of women billionaires all over the globe.

The study shows that there is a rise in antiwealth sentiment among politicians, with higher taxes and increasingly onerous financial regulations.
