President Barack Obama has invited his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to join the Nuclear Security Summit to be held in March in Washington, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister, Erlan Idrissov, announced Wednesday.

“Next year will witness major events such as the Nuclear Security Summit to be held in Washington in late March,” Idrissov during his yearend speech in Astana.

“The leader of the United States has invited to this summit our president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is very active in the antinuclear movement,” Kazakhstan’s top diplomat said.

Idrissov noted that another major even next year would be the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit slated for April in Turkey.

“The OIC summit has special meaning for us. Kazakhstan will participate in this important gathering, where we will discuss ways to ensure longterm stability in the Middle East with the focus being the fight against terrorism,” Idrissov said.
