One person was injured in a bomb attack targeting a Chinese engineer in southern Pakistan Monday.

Separatist group the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they were acting against the ChinesePakistan economic corridor a project involving an investment of $46 billion.

The blast took place early Monday in Karachi, capital of Sindh province and financial center of the country, when a bomb went off near the vehicle the Chinese engineer was traveling in, police spokesman Rao Anwar told EFE.

The Pakistani driver of the vehicle was wounded, while the Chinese man suffered light injuries on his hand.

Police recovered from the site a letter in which the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army group which seeks to establish its own state claimed responsibility for the attack.

“Foreign control of Sindh’s natural resources will not be tolerated. We want to make it clear to China we are opposed to any antiSindh project, including the ChinaPakistan economic corridor,” the document said, according to Anwar.

The note added the group considers China to be an ally of the ruling class of the Punjab province where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hails from which seeks to “enslave Sindh and plunder its resources”.

In Apr. 2015 Pakistan and China agreed to develop the corridor, involving a $46 billion investment in Pakistan including construction of highways, ports and power plants, and making inroads into the Arabian Sea for China.

Pakistan is betting big on the project for its economic future, with its leaders making frequent mention of the corridor.
