PLO calls on EU to change strategy for peace in Israel-Palestine conflict

Share

A member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, or PLO, executive committee, Hanan Ashrawi, asked the European Union special representative to Middle East peace process, Federico Gentilini, on Wednesday to augment its global strategy in addressing the security situation in the IsraelPalestine conflict.

During a meeting in Ramallah, Ashrawi argued that because Israel is actively destroying the prospects of stability in the region, it is necessary to focus on peace and not merely on the process.

She emphasized the need for Europe and governments around the world to take a new approach and strategic policy to put an end to the Israeli military occupation, and establish an independent Palestinian state.

Both officials discussed the situation on the ground and the “continuing violations of international law and human rights by Israel.”

On the anniversary of the truce in the recent 2014 Israel war on Gaza, Ashrawi called for lifting the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, and stressed the importance of ending internal Palestinian divisions.
