Ravens edge Steelers 23-20 in OT for 1st win of the season

The Pittsburgh Steelers struggled once again without injured star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in a 2320 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, who finally got into the win column.

Backup QB Michael Vick was unable to unleash the Steelers’ full arsenal of weapons, completing 19 of his 26 attempts through the air but amassing just 126 passing yards Thursday night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

That allowed the Ravens (13) to stay in the game and grab the victory on a 52yard field goal by kicker Justin Tucker with 5:08 remaining in overtime.

Tucker had kicked two other field goals in the fourth quarter including a 42yarder with seven seconds remaining in regulation to rally the Ravens from a 2014 deficit.

The Ravens were also helped by two missed fieldgoal attempts by Steelers kicker Josh Scobee, who failed to convert twice into a swirling wind over the final 2:30 of the fourth quarter first from 49 yards and then from 41 yards.

Pittsburgh (22) also failed to convert two overtime fourthdown opportunities in the Ravens’ half of the field prior to Tucker’s gamewinner.

Running back Justin Forsett was the star for Baltimore, rushing for 150 yards on 27 carries, while quarterback Joe Flacco completed 20 of 33 passes for 189 yards and threw one touchdown and one interception.

Flacco said afterward that the Ravens showed character in getting the win, adding that getting a victory over an AFC North division rival was doubly important.

The Ravens were desperate for a win after losing their first three games to the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals by a combined total of just 14 points.

Roethlisberger, who was behind center for all of the Steelers’ first two games, in which the team racked up a combined total of 720 passing yards against the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers, missed Thursday night’s contest with a left knee sprain.

The star quarterback sustained the injury during last week’s game against the St. Louis Rams, which held Pittsburgh’s offense in check in a 126 win.
