Right-wing Hindu group stages anti-Pakistan protest in New Delhi

Dozens of people in the Indian capital gathered Tuesday for a fiery antiPakistan protest, as violence has flared in the northern state of Kashmir for over a week, an epa journalist reports.

The rightwing Hindu nationalist party Shiv Sena organized the action, which drew 5060 people, who met at Parliament Street, not far from the Parliament House in Central New Delhi.

The group chanted antiPakistan slogans such as ‘Down down Pakistan’, ‘Pakistan shouldn’t promote terrorism’, and ‘Down down Pakistan Prime Minister’, as well as chanting messages in support of the Indian army.

They also burned Pakistani flags and images of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the peaceful, 30minute protest.

The picket followed an announcement by Sharif last week that Jul. 20 be observed as ‘Black Day’ in protest against the deaths of Kashmiris during the latest violence there, according to Pakistan’s Channel 24 news site.

At least 44 people have died in violence and clashes with police and military personnel in Kashmir since a local militant was killed on Jul. 8.
