Rolling Stones ask Trump to stop using their songs

British rock group The Rolling Stones asked the presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to stop playing their songs at his election campaign events, reported specialized media Billboard.

The request by the legendary band led by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards comes a day after he won the primaries of Indiana, a victory that led to the unexpected abandonment of the presidential race by his main rival, Texas senator Ted Cruz.

On Wednesday the last contestant who remained, the governor of Ohio, John Kasich, also announced his withdrawal, which then placed “de facto” the controversial tycoon as the Republican Party candidate for the November elections, despite not having the 1,237 delegates required for automatic nomination (he has accumulated so far 1,047).

After recognizing his victory in Indiana and the withdrawal of Cruz, Trump gave a speech in Indianapolis on Tuesday in which his appearance on stage was accompanied by the song “Start Me Up” of The Rolling Stones’.

“The Rolling Stones have never given their permission for Trump’s campaign to use their songs,” said a representative of the group to Billboard, adding that the band has requested that “they cease all use (of the songs) immediately.”

“Start Me Up” is not the only song of “Their Satanic Majesties” that Trump has used throughout his campaign. According to the information from The New Yorker, in his events they have also played “You Can not Always Get What You Want”, “Sympathy For The Devil” and “Brown Sugar”.

The Rolling Stones are not the first to show their rejection of Trump’s use of their songs for political purposes. English singer Adele, Canadian rocker Neil Young and former members of the US group R.E.M. also expressed themselves in the same way.
