Samsung to present new S6 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Share

Samsung Electronics is to present its next smartphone, the Galaxy S6, on Mar. 1 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to invitations sent by the electronics company Tuesday to South Korean media.

The invitation “Samsung Unpacked 2014, Episode 1” says “What’s Next” below the image of a curved grey silhouette on a dark backdrop, suggesting that its new product could introduce design variations.

The document also shows the date, time and place of the event where the Galaxy S6 is to be supposedly launched (Barcelona, March 1).

It is believed that Samsung’s invitation refers to the new S6 as last year it undertook a similar promotion campaign before presenting its S5 around the end of February.

It has also become a routine event for the South Korean company to present a new version of its smartphone at the beginning of spring.

The new model is usually up for sale a month after its first public appearance.

Tech analysts expect the new Samsung gadget to have its own processor instead of Snapdragon 810, the latest from U.S. firm Qualcomm, and a metal body instead of a plastic one.

The Galaxy S6 is being considered to be a key product which could determine the future of Samsung Electronics, whose profits have been greatly reduced partly due to the lukewarm response to Galaxy S5 in the global market which is getting increasingly competitive.

In the highend mobile phone sector, Apple has made advances with its versions of the iPhone 6, while other rival models, including the LG G3, have reached Samsung’s standards, according to most experts in the sector.

At the same time, Samsung’s dominance as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world is in danger from emerging Chinese manufacturers which are snatching away its market especially for mid and lowrange mobile phones.
