South Korean multinational Samsung Electronics announced Tuesday that it will be presenting its new 5G technology that promises higher speeds to mobile users at the Mobile World Congress, MWC, in Barcelona.

Samsung will be promoting its socalled millimeter wave technology, along with the South Korean wireless telecommunications operator, SK Telecom, which boasts of a transmission speed of 7.55 gigabytes per second, around 30 times faster than current existing 4G networks.

The new technology will operate on the 30300 GHz band against the 6 GHz that communication networks use presently, the two firms said.

Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom also announced in a joint statement that they will be expanding joint research on the latest network in a bid to be the first to launch the 5G network in global markets.

This year’s edition of the MWC, considered the world’s most important mobile telephony show, will take place in Barcelona from Mar. 25.

However, the most eagerly awaited offering by Samsung Electronics continues to be the unveiling of its next flagship smart phone, the Galaxy S6, at the event.

The Galaxy S6 is believed to be key in reviving the medium term fortunes of the company which has seen a dip in its revenue partly due to the lukewarm response to the Galaxy S5 in an increasingly competitive global market.
