Sharapova one step closer to semifinals after defeating Halep

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, ranked 4th in the world, snatched her second victory in the 2015 WTA finals in Singapore on Tuesday after defeating Romanian Simona Halep 64, 64, and is one step closer towards the tournament’s semifinals.

Sharapova is looking forward to a third win against the winner of the 2015 U.S. Open, the Italian Flavia Pennetta in the following round.

While U.S. player Serena Williams, the world’s No. 1, chose not to participate in the tournament after being eliminated from the semifinals of the U.S. Open, Sharapova is looking to win the title in Singapore, which she already won in 2004 and was a runner up in 2007 and 2012.
