Singer Alejandro Fernandez’s daughter follows in his footsteps

Camila Fernandez, daughter of Mexican singer Alejandro Fernandez, announced the debut of her career as a soloist on the occasion of her 18th birthday, and so her adult life begins.

“I’m happy, excited music has been my life since I was a little girl and I’ve been practicing to make my dream come true,” the young woman told a press conference Monday at the main office of Universal Music of Mexico, the record label that sponsors her.

With snappy, even monosyllabic replies, the artist born in Guadalajara in the western Mexican state of Jalisco unveiled her plans for 2016.

She will record a song in the third week of January and as the year progresses will present a number of singles as a leadup to her first album.

“My dad is giving me the best advice, he’s the best teacher. He knew all this was going to happen because I kept telling him it would since I was little, and of course he supports me,” the singer said.

Camila’s talent has been on display since elementary school, when she studied in the United States and trained to play the part of African American Motormouth Maybelle in the musical “Hairspray,” which won her widespread applause.

She has taken courses in singing, music theory, guitar, violin, ukulele, drums, dance, ballet and acting, and this Monday let it be known she is ready to meet the challenge of being heir to the musical dynasty of the Fernandez clan, begun by her grandfather Vicente, one of Mexico’s greatest singers of ranchera music.

“My grandpa supports me in everything he always tells me that first come discipline and giving your all to your audience,” Camila said.
