Sony Pictures unable to cut deal with David Fincher to direct Jobs biopic

Sony Pictures was unable to reach a deal with David Fincher to direct the movie about Apple cofounder Steve Jobs’s life, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The two sides could not reach an agreement because of Fincher’s “aggressive demands for compensation and control,” the entertainment publication said, citing sources.

Sony Pictures wanted to team Fincher up again with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.

The duo got Sony eight Oscar nominations in 2011 for “The Social Network,” but Fincher demanded $10 million up front and total control over the Jobs film’s marketing campaign.

“The Social Network” was also a box office hit, raking in $225 million.

Fincher was nominated for an Oscar and Sorkin won an Academy Award for the film.

Fincher may try to reopen the negotiations, but his initial fee demands were “ridiculous,” a source with ties to the studio told The Hollywood Reporter.

“You’re not doing ‘Transformers’ here. You’re not doing ‘Captain America.’ This is quality it’s not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front,” the source told the entertainment industry publication.

The Jobs biopic is based on the bestselling biography of the Apple cofounder by Walter Isaacson.

Fincher was thinking about having Christian Bale play Jobs in the film.
