Spain’s Tommy Robredo, the No. 16 seed, rallied to beat Australia’s Nick Kyrgios 36, 63, 76 (74), 63 in a thirdround match at the U.S. Open that ended early Sunday.

The 32yearold Robredo’s next opponent at the year’s last Grand Slam event will be Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka, the No. 3 seed.

Wawrinka advanced to the fourth round when Slovakia’s Blaz Kavcic retired due to a foot injury.

Robredo and Wawrinka last played in Melbourne, where the Swiss star beat him in the round of 16 on his way to winning the Australian Open title.

The Spaniard has a 62 career record against the 29yearold Wawrinka.

The 19yearold Kyrgios got off to a good start, taking advantage of Robredo’s weak service game, but the veteran was just too much for the Australian.

Kyrgios made a name for himself on the ATP Tour this year by beating Spanish star Rafael Nadal in the round of 16 at Wimbledon on July 1.

In other action on Saturday, Serbian world No. 1 Novak Djokovic rolled over American Sam Querrey 63, 62, 62, while Canada’s Milos Raonic defeated the Dominican Republic’s Victor Estrella Burgos 76 (75), 76 (75), 76 (73).

Britain’s Andy Murray beat Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov 61, 75, 46, 62.

France’s JoWilfried Tsonga defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreño Busta 64, 64, 64.

On the women’s side, American world No. 1 Serena Williams beat countrywoman Varvara Lepchenko 63, 63, while Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard defeated the Czech Republic’s Barbora Zhlavova Strycova 62, 67 (27), 64.

Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi crushed Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 75, 60.

Serbian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic pulled off the big upset of the day, stunning the Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova, the No. 3 seed and reigning Wimbledon champion, 64, 64.
