Sterling falls to lowest level in 3 decades after Brexit

Sterling dropped again on Tuesday to its lowest level in three decades to trade at $1.31, the second fall after the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union on June 23.

Sterling fell 1.8 percent against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday morning.

The pound was down by 1.04 percent against the euro, standing at 1.18 euros, its lowest value in more than two years.

The uncertainty regarding Brexit also affected the London Stock Exchange, which fell by 0.27 percent at the beginning of Tuesday’s trading.

The financial and corporate sectors have asked the U.K. government to provide guarantees on the negotiations with Brussels and the future of European citizens working in the United Kingdom.
