Swedish Sjostrom breaks world record to win gold medal in 100m butterfly

Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjostrom set a new world record in the 100m butterfly to win a gold medal this Sunday at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Sjostrom clocked in at 55.48 seconds, breaking her own world record of 55.64 seconds set at the World Championships held in August 2015 in Kazan, Russia.

She was 98 hundredths quicker than Canadian Penny Oleksiak who won the silver medal with a time of 56.46 and 1.15 seconds faster than American Dana Vollmer who took the bronze medal with a time of 56.63.
