F18 fighters of the Swiss Air Force escorted on Tuesday an aircraft of the Israeli national airline El Al while it was traveling from New York to Tel Aviv, after receiving an anonymous bomb threat, Israeli media reported.

The airline confirmed the information and said it had received an anonymous note on the existence of a bomb.

Despite the threat, the plane continued on its route to Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv as planned, said the company, which did not provide further details, according to Haaretz newspaper.

The plane landed at the airport without an emergency landing or calling special security forces.

According to Israeli media, the bomb threat prompted the Swiss authorities to send fighters to escort the aircraft on the border between Switzerland and France.
