Taylor wins gold again in Olympic triple jump, Claye repeats silver

Share

Americans Christian Taylor and Will Claye won the gold and silver medals in the men’s Olympic triple jump on Tuesday, but they failed to break Briton Jonathan Edwards’s world record.

The 26yearold Taylor covered 17.86 meters on his first jump, while Claye came up ten centimeters behind him.

The duo, winners of the gold and silver at the 2012 London Games, did not improve their marks in the other two attempts.

Neither American was able to break Edwards’s record, which has stood for 21 years.

China’s Dong Bin won the bronze medal with a triple jump of 17.58 meters on his first attempt.

Portugal’s Nelson Evora and Colombia’s John Murillo finished 4th and 5th, respectively.

Taylor, the Olympic and world champion, still has not set a world record in his brilliant career.

At the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, Taylor’s triple jump of 18.21 meters came up just eight centimeters short of the current world record.
