U.S. to deploy military equipment in 6 Eastern European countries

U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced on Tuesday that his country will temporarily deploy tanks, armored vehicles and artillery in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Carter explained the plans in a press conference in the Estonian capital of Tallinn with the defense ministers of the three Baltic republics, who received the announcement with satisfaction, thanking the United States for its support against Russian threats.

The Defense secretary explained that Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have agreed to host heavy military equipment for exercises and maneuvers.

Carter started his journey in Germany on Monday, where he confirmed U.S. participation in the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps.

His agenda in Tallinn includes meetings with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Prime Minister Taavi Roivas, before heading to Brussels for a meeting of NATO defense ministers on Wednesday.
