WTA Rankings: Bouchard returns to top five

Canada’s tennis player Eugenie Bouchard has jumped for the first time in her career to the top five list in Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tennis rankings issued on Monday.

Bouchard managed to grab the fifth spot in this week’s rankings the expense of recentlyretired Chinese Li Na and Polish Agnieszka Radwanska.

“I have been able to play well and prove my performance in some games, including reaching the final rounds in Grand Slam tournaments category, so I have earned the right to compete in the Masters,” Bouchard said upon arrival in Singapore where she will appear, for the first time in her career, in the tournament which pits the best eight players of the year, the WTA Finals.

Bouchard will be in the red group, along with Serena Williams, Simona Halep and Ana Ivanovic, while the white group includes Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki.

“Being one of the best players in the world is an accomplishment in itself,” she said.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams remained undisputed at the top spot of the rankings.

9. Li Na (China) 3970 pts

10. Angelique Kerber (Germany) 3480 pts.
